We are very proud of our team member Mojtaba Tavakoli for being awarded with the prestigious DOC fellowship provided by the Austrian Academy of Science (ÖAW). For his doctoral research on the development of novel methods in super-resolution microscopy in the group of Johann Danzl at IST Austria, Mojtaba receives a 2-year funding from the ÖAW.
The DOC Fellowship Programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences offers funding for highly qualified doctoral candidates in all areas of research. The fellowships in the amount of 38,000 Euros per year allow young researchers to dedicate themselves to working in focused fashion to complete their doctoral thesis within a clear time frame.
Mojtaba’s project requires a deep understanding of chemistry and biology, and he has been fascinated by the world of molecules early on. This world on the nanoscale has actually helped him through rough times of his life, which was when he came to Austria as a 13-year old refugee. Mojtaba dreams of running his own research group in Austria one day to provide novel insights into molecules and their cellular function. Thereby, he want to give back to society – a society that supported him during his difficult start in Austria and provided him with an education and an environment where he could strengthen and deepen his fascination for the tiny pieces that hold the world together.
